Married taxpayers in Greece can choose to submit a separate income tax return instead of a joint one.
The choice is made when at least one spouse submits the request and it becomes binding for both spouses.
⁉️ Who needs to take action
- If you did not choose separate filing last year and want to do so this year → you must submit a request.
- If you already filed separately last year and want to continue → no action is required.
- If you filed separately and now want to return to joint filing → you must submit a cancellation request.
📅 Deadline
The request or cancellation can be submitted until:
📅 February 28 each year.
No changes are allowed after this date.
⁉️ When is it useful
Separate filing is helpful when:
- One spouse has tax debts
- You want to avoid offsetting tax refunds
